LOVE PROTECTION
Here’s how to care for your MINNA MINNAs.
You may notice a slight scent of glue when opening your MINNA MINNA shoes. Don’t worry, that will go away after a few days once you air your shoes out and start wearing them. The only chemical used to make MINNA MINNAs is the strong glue that’s needed to attach the soles. And we only use that because there aren’t any better options out there yet. But we’re always on the lookout for new and better ways of making our shoes, so if a great glue alternative becomes available, we’ll use it.
A shoe mender can do wonders to worn out shoes, so we highly recommend turning to a professional when your MINNA MINNAs start to show signs of ageing.
All skin ages faster if not properly taken care of. So will your shoes. Here’s what you can do to keep your MINNA MINNAs looking their very best:
Chrome-free leather
Leather is a great food industry by-product that’s been used to make shoes for hundreds of years. We think leather is the best possible material when it comes to comfort and wearability because it’s breathable and moulds to the shape of the user’s foot. Our shoes are made with leathers that are chrome-free which makes them easier on nature and healthier for humans.
To increase the lifespan of your leather MINNA MINNAs, it’s important to clean and protect them on a regular basis. To do that, we recommend using our LOVE PROTECTION Cleaning Sponge, Natural Shoe Cleaner, Natural Repel and Natural Shoe Wax.
Remember, a leather shoe isn’t a rubber boot, so try your best to avoid puddles. We want you to dance all night, but it’s probably best not to wear your favourite pair of MINNA MINNAs in muddy, rough or tough terrain. If the surface of the leather gets damaged consult your shoe mender.
Metallic surfaces
Metallic surfaces are made with a thin top coat that can be sensitive to rubbing, scratching and normal wear and tear. Your local shoe mender can help bring some of the shine back to the metallic surfaces on your shoes, so please consult a professional once they start to show signs of ageing.
To increase the lifespan of your leather MINNA MINNAs, it’s important to clean and protect them on a regular basis. To do that, we recommend using our LOVE PROTECTION Cleaning Sponge and Natural Shoe Cleaner. But remember, a little gentle patting is all it takes, no rubbing. Other cleaning and protection sprays may tarnish metallics completely, so be careful.
Vegan
Our aim is to reduce plastics in shoe production. The harsh truth about vegan shoes is that they actually often contain a large amount of plastic.
MINNA MINNA vegan shoes are made of 60% palm leaf and 40% BCI and recycled pre-consumer cotton. This material is durable, but the metallic foil on top is sensitive to rubbing, scratching and normal wear and tear. Your local shoe mender can help bring some of the shine back to the metallic surfaces on your shoes, so please consult a professional once they start to show signs of ageing. Or you can just embrace the irregularity and natural look that ageing brings.
Remember, our vegan shoes are not rubber boots, so try your best to avoid puddles. We want you to dance all night, but it’s probably best not to wear your favourite pair of MINNA MINNAs in muddy, rough or tough terrain.

Suede and nubuck
The nubuck and suede we use are chrome-free, which makes them gentler on nature and healthier for humans.
To extend the lifespan of your suede or nubuck MINNA MINNAs, it's important to clean and protect them regularly. We recommend using our LOVE PROTECTION Natural Repel before wearing your shoes. Reapply regularly. To clean suede or nubuck, use the LOVE PROTECTION Cleaning Sponge and Natural Shoe Cleaner.
Remember, suede or nubuck shoes do not like getting wet, so do your best to avoid puddles. We recommend not to wear your favourite pair of MINNA MINNAs on muddy, rough, or tough terrain.
If the leather surface gets damaged, consult your cobbler.
Natural rubber sole
All MINNA MINNA shoes have natural rubber soles that are completely plastic free. That means no more microplastics with every step.
Natural rubber tends to be a bit heavier and more dirt absorbent than plastic-based materials, which means that dirt may be more visible, especially on lighter coloured shoes. A slight white powdery appearance may be visible on brighter coloured shoes over time. These are both characteristics of the natural rubber sole.
To keep your MINNA MINNA soles clean, we recommend using our LOVE PROTECTION Cleaning Sponge and Natural Shoe Cleaner. To remove heavier dirt, try using an old toothbrush with our Natural Shoe Cleaner.
Laces
When your laces get dirty, wash them by hand to freshen them up.
Metal parts
Some MINNA MINNA styles include nickel-free metal parts that are powder-coated with paint. The metal may start to show if the paint gets scratched.
Printed logo
Our ballerinas have an organic cotton strap with the MINNA MINNA logo printed on it. The print may come off with strong or repetitive rubbing. The printed logo on the insole may also wear out through time.
If the shoe doesn’t fit
To keep your feet healthy and happy, it’s important to wear shoes that fit and feel right. We like to use materials that will mould to your feet as you wear your shoes and leather is excellent at that.
Never wear shoes that are too small. Extra insoles are a good way to adjust the size and fit of your shoes.
